The Smarter Reefs automatic self-cleaning protein skimmer
The Smarter Reefs automatic self-cleaning protein skimmer is a very efficient and hassle-free protein skimmer produced by Smart reefs. This rectangular skimmer design allows for the elimination of the skimmer cup and neck. it does this by processing the skimmate through the unit where the gunk will accumulate in an area of the skimmer and the motor which is connected to the roller above will turn to wipe the gunk clear of the unit.
This type of skimmer works to reduce required maintenance so you get more time to enjoy your aquarium. An additional bonus to this is the fact that this unit basically eliminates the chance of overflowing your skimmer cup and polluting your aquarium. The unit turns once daily which allows the fleece to capture the gunk and wipes the skimmer walls clear during this process which ensures optimal performance at all times.
Located towards the top is a large PVC drain which allows for skimmate to be collected into a large container of your choice (not included). This will ultimately reduce the hassle of skimmers while still receiving the benefits of one within your system. This unit is designed for systems up to 200 gallons and for any system, which is larger can have multiple adjacent units in the sump allowing for super flexible use cases for this type of unit.
When it comes to maintenance, the units offer an extensive period. The filter fleece will last 3 months or more, depending on how you set up the motor controller and with the ability to use any reservoir you like, you can reduce the need to empty the collection section to your desire. This allows you to reduce maintenance required from weekly/monthly to multiple months at a time.
