Tropic Marin KH/Alkalinity-Test
The Tropic Marin KH/Alkalinity-test is important for measuring the carbonate hardness or alkalinity of your aquarium water. Alkalinity/KH is important as it determines the ability to maintain a pH value. Not only this but alkalinity is a very important elements in a reef aquarium, too much and calcium will begin to precipitate, low levels of calcium will cause issues with coral growth and healthy. Too little and the acidity in your aquarium will swing which could result in livestock loss.
It is essential to ensure that KH/Alkalinity is measured on a regular basis in a reef aquarium to ensure stable parameters. This will result in healthy fish as well as stable coral growth and colouration. Many LPS species struggle with KH swings in particular. It is suggested that alkalinity should be at around 6 to 9 degree of Germany hardness (°dH).
